About Edwards solar hot water systems
In 2013 Edwards Energy Systems was bought out by Rheem. Prior to this, they had been producing their own hot water systems in Perth since the 1960's. Many homes in Australia still have Edwards water heaters, particularly their solar systems. At Jim's Plumbing we can still repair and replace any type of Edwards solar system for you.
If you are looking for a replacement system for an older Edwards solar setup, you really can't go wrong with a Rheem. Since taking over Edwards, Rheem has furthered their solar technology and is one of the leaders in the market. They still manufacture some of the same models Edwards used to, but also now have their own quite diverse range of solar options to choose from.
Types of Edwards Solar Systems
Edwards developed a diverse range of solar hot water solutions which many homes still use today. They were responsible for developing a lot of the technology and innovation found in modern solar systems.
Roof mounted HighLine systems
- All-in-one unit with a collector (solar panel) and storage tank (close-coupled thermosiphon systems)
- Included the L series 2 and LX series 2 with Titan 2 & Australis 2 models
- Available in gas and electric boosted versions
LowLine systems - roof collector + ground tank
- Separate units for roof mounted collector (solar panel) + ground storage tank - also known as split-systems
- Ground storage tanks were available in various sizes and were all re-badged Rheem storage tanks
- Collectors were more streamlined and made from black aluminum
Heat pumps
- 310L and 325L capacity options, which were just re-badged Rheem units
- Mostly used to supplement solar collectors, but some houses may still use these as standalone heaters

If your hot water has gone, our plumbers will first visit your premises to do a diagnostic inspection. Replacing an Edwards solar heater
A lot of Edwards solar systems are getting quite old now - some going on 15+ years. Often it is more cost-effective, and at times necessary, to simply replace the whole system. If this is the case, our plumbers can discuss a variety of professional recommendations and options to suit your current needs.
If you would like a new solar hot water system, there are plenty of great options in today's market, particularly from Rheem. They still even manufacture a lot of the exact same models that Edwards used to. Otherwise our plumbers can suggest another type of new solar system setup, or even swap it out for a storage tank, continuous flow, heat pump or other type of water heater if you'd prefer not stay with solar.
