Got a suspected gas leak? We can have a licensed gas-fitter out 24/7 to you quickly
Our plumbers are all licensed gas-fitters and have extensive experience fixing all types of gas leaks. We offer a fast response 24/7 service to help address emergency gas situations across Australia. Generally we can be at your home or business within a maximum of 1-2 hours after you call.
If you suspect you have a gas leak, please make sure your gas mains are turned off right now! If you are not sure where they are, please ask someone who may know, or speak to one of our plumbers who may be able to help you find them. Most of all, do not try and fix it yourself. Gas leaks are potentially very dangerous and should only be handled by licensed gas-fitters such as our plumbers. Call us 24/7 to request help from a professional.
What we do in the event of a suspected gas leak
Initial safety inspection
In the event of a suspected gas leak, the first and most important thing we do is conduct an initial safety inspection to ensure there are no other factors present which may cause a potentially dangerous situation.
Gas leak investigation & detection
Our initial investigation includes pressure testing to determine if a leak is present in the gas service. Once a leak is confirmed, our experienced plumbers can narrow down what section of the gas service is leaking by installing separate isolation valves and using specialised equipment to pinpoint exactly where the leak is coming from.
Gas leak repair
If the leak is coming from an easily-accessible section of pipe, we may be able to simply repair or replace that section. If it is in a more inaccessible pipe location, a better option may be to divert a new pipe around the damaged area. If it is from a gas fixture such as your regulator, we can simply replace this for you.
7 possible signs you have a gas leak
If any of these tell-tale signs are present at your property, we strongly recommend getting one of our plumbers out ASAP to have a look and avoid further damage or a hazardous situation.
- You can smell gas - this sounds obvious, but if you can smell gas, there is definitely a leak somewhere
- Hissing sounds from appliances - even when turned off, appliances like stovetops, ovens etc. may produce a distinct hissing sound as gas escapes
- If you have a gas hot water system - the pilot light might keep going out or changing colour, and the system is delivering inconsistent water temperatures.
- Dead plants in garden - if there are pipes near your gardens, the escaping gas will often cause plants to die and significantly stunt their growth.
- Your gas bill/use increases - if your gas bill increases unexpectedly without any particular reason or extra usage of appliances, it may be a sign of a leak.
- Air bubbles your yard - often a gas leak in an underground pipe outdoors will leave simmering bubbles in puddles, mud and other standing water.
- Physical symptoms of gas poisoning - if you and your family are unexplained fatigue, headaches, dizziness, nausea or irregular breathing, a gas leak may be to blame and please consult a doctor first.
